importance of anti-grp78 antibody in pre-eclampsia
Authors
abstract
background: preeclampsia (pe) is a pregnancy specific syndrome that is associated with high maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. glucose regulated protein78 (grp78) is an endoplasmic reticulum (er) protein which is expressed on the cell surfaces of trophoblast cells under stress or hypoxic condition. grp78 has a role in aggressive behavior of invasive cells and may play a role in normal placentation. objectives: to investigate the autoantibody against grp78 in the sera of patients with pe and to assess the correlation between antibody and severity of the disease. methods: we evaluated the anti-grp78 antibody within the sera of fifty pre-eclamptic (12 severe and 38 mild pe) and fifty healthy pregnant women using a home-made elisa assay. furthermore, western blot technique was used to assess the expression of grp78 in placenta of healthy and pre-eclamptic women in their third trimester. the presence of anti-grp78 antibody in the serum samples from pre-eclamptic and healthy women was also assessed. results: grp78 was expressed by placenta, and both healthy and preeclamptic women produced anti-grp78 antibody. although no significant difference was found between the pre-eclamptic and healthy women regarding the level of anti-grp78 antibody, the difference between severe pre-eclamptic and healthy control women was statistically significant (p

full textGRP78 as a marker of pre-eclampsia: an exploratory study.
Although the exact mechanisms that lead to shallow invasion or defective trophoblastic differentiation in pre-eclampsia are still unknown, it is widely admitted that the etiology of pre-eclampsia is a defect in trophoblast invasion of the uterine spiral arteries. We have previously observed that the status of a chaperone protein, glucose regulated protein 78 (GRP78) is associated with the invas...
full textEclampsia Precedes Pre-Eclampsia
Eclampsia is an extremely severe form of preeclampsia characterized by the sudden onset of generalized tonic clonic seizures. It may occur quite abruptly, without any warning manifestations. This is a case report where Mrs.X was normotensive throughout her pregnancy who underwent emergency cesarean section for cephalo pelvic disproportion and threw generalized tonic clonic seizures on the first...
full textSerum homocysteine in pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.
Pre-eclampsia and eclampsia are common obstetrical problem causing adverse effects on pregnancy outcome. Large bodies of evidences suggest that hyperhomocysteinemia is a causal factor of pre-eclampsia/eclampsia. This study designed to explore the association between hyperhomocysteinemia and pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, the knowledge of which expected to be used for prevention of pre-eclampsia and e...
full textPre-eclampsia/eclampsia in twin pregnancies.
A study of 1045 twin gestations with regard to known or likely zygosity and the incidence of pre-eclampsia/eclampsia failed to reveal differences between known dizygous twins and like-sex 'presumed' and 'estimated' monozygous twins except in the 'estimated' data for multigravidae. There was a threefold increase in the incidence for twins as opposed to singleton pregnancies. These results are di...
